As usual the Allergy Show at Olympia in London is delivering a delicious sensory overload of food discoveries, free samples, great deals, learning sessions and the opportunity to talk to creative passionate people.
If you need free tickets, here they are! http://www.allergyshow.co.uk/go/foreverfreefrom
Gosh! Burgers, Bakes & Bites (stand A475)
If you follow my tip to skip breakfast prior to the show go here first to sample the all-new range of free-from burgers, bakes and bites from Gosh! so that you start with a balanced meal instead of cakes and biscuits! Gosh! is a brand new product range very recently launched and everything is ‘Free-14’, meaning free from all 14 major allergens including gluten, egg, dairy, nut & soya. But do they taste nice? Yes they do! The seasonings are goldilocks zone ‘just right’. I bought 8 packs and only stopped there due to practical thinking about freezer space!
Natural Vitality, Incredible Oak Smoked Houmous (stand A129)
I love houmous so much I might be a credible candidate for a second passport with some middle eastern country which makes it best. Whichever country that might be!. Natural Vitality produce a range of houmous, all good, but sampling their oak smoked houmous provided me one with a – wow, WOW, this tastes great – moment. I think finding the worlds best houmous is a journey, not a destination, but this should be one of the stops taken en route!
Fish 4 Ever, Sustainable Line-Caught Fish (stand A651)
The ‘free-from’ of Fish 4 Ever is free-from unsustainable, ecologically and environmentally damaging fishing methods and practices. Short of buying your fish from a fishmonger who can tell you the name of the fisher-person who caught it and how, buying from Fish 4 Ever is without doubt the best way to be confident you are buying fish caught sustainably. I love that they exhibit and offer samples, get your protein samples here to counter-balance all the carbs!
Alliance for Natural Health (stand L53)
I attended a ‘Stop the Clock’ talk delivered by Rob Verkerk of Alliance for Natural Health. The talk focused on the lifestyle and dietary practices you can adopt to set yourself up for a health, vitality and longer life. I went in with due skepticism, fearful that it would be overly simplistic or a vehicle for promoting a wonder-supplement. Instead I was a lucky recipient of an exceptionally well grounded, compelling and superbly articulated briefing leading to clear actionable recommendations. The talk is running again on Sunday 10th and if you cannot make it to that absolutely do go to speak with Rob or Meleni. A cheeky tip here . . . . ask them their age and see if you think they look it. They don’t! They are great personal adverts for the educational content and platform they are leading.
Map My Gut, Personal Gut Microbiome Analysis
Quite frankly, I am beyond excitement about this. Map My Gut is launching in September as a commercially available gut microbiome analysis service. It has been borne out of the academic / non-commercial British Gut Project led by Tim Spector. Research pursuing an understanding of the gut microbiome may be the most promising field for unlocking revelations about our health. As that understanding develops this service may enable individuals to gain actionable insights about their own personal microbiome.
Nutural World, Nut Butter Cornicopia (stand L167)
Name your favourite nut. I am pretty sure that Nutural World has at least one nut butter featuring it. So variety, check. Name the things you don’t want to see in your nut butter. Like added salt, sugar, emulsifiers, nasties. Nutural World doesn’t use any of those. Do you like Nutella? Well then you will love the upgraded, far-better-for-you Hazelnut & Carob spread. Not sure which nut butter you love best yet? No worries, go and try samples or get a bundle of mini-jars to find out.
But most importantly perhaps, these Nut Butters are made with love, the secret ingredient. The passion that the artisan maker of these butters has for the quality of the butters is remarkable.
