I discovered MiiRO icecreams as a very lucky Free From Food Awards judge. They were cleverly scheduled at the end of a list of products to sample. If they had come first it just would not have been fair on everything else. When they were finally served the normally brief wait as samples got passed around the table appeared to take stretch on forever. Finally, I got to taste a MiiRO Salted Caramel for the first time, and my reaction was simply this.
MMMmmm . . . . WOW, GORGEOUS!
Normally as judges begin sampling they maintain a poker face and avoid voicing opinions, even appreciative noises. This is so that judges yet to sample are not influenced by expressions of delight or dismay. MiiRO crumbled our discipline. There was a wave of pleasure evident as we each consumed our precious Salted Caramel ice cream morsels. Most deservedly, MiiRO won several Free From Food Awards, including Gold.
MiiRO Icecreams – To Try is to Love
I clearly remember Magnums. Rich, decadent, velvety. Crackling melt in the mouth dark chocolate on the outside. Creamy ice cream on the inside. Luxury. Most magnums *are* gluten-free but it is impossible to have a comparable experience with a vegan ice cream, right? Right. Well, right *only* until MiiRO arrived. MiiRO means “to wonder” in latin. They *are* wonderful, and they are a wonder.
Gluten-free, dairy-free. Vegan. No refined sugar. No preservatives, no emulsifiers. Just 166 calories per delicious MiiRO. Sweetened with grape juice. Higher fibre than most similar treats thanks to added inulin.
Great, that means they *can* be consumed by lots of people. Should they be though? Are they *the* treat worth seeking out?
I am *tempted* to say no so there are MORE for me but instead I am adopting the long term view. Lots of people need to discover and begin their love of MiiRO so that they become available in more places. I need to secure the supply.
MiiRO has all the qualities of a truly great choc-ice. A mature, adult choc-ice. If a love of Magnums was something holding you back from going plant-based, seriously, now is the time. That said, let me emphasise this. MiiRO are not great *despite* being gluten-free and vegan. They are simply great. I *have* tested them with Magnum eating friends. They love MiiRO too!
MiiRO Icecreams Varieties
There are currently three. Salted Caramel, Chocolate Hazelnut and Peanut Butter. They are notably different but I honestly cannot recommend any over the others. When you find them buy all three varieties and try each one. Share them with your . . . . haha no, I am kidding! Forget rolos, no one is getting your last MiiRO. Or your first, or second, probably.
So seek your own favourite. I realise this is a tremendous burden but I encourage you to endure it as well you can. Should the need arise, enrol help. I mention that I am willing to share your burden. Contact me. If you have MiiRO icecreams, I will travel.
Reviewing these was devilishly difficult. I had to to try three of each before I found my own personal favourite. Also try as I might, I just could not ever manage to capture a naked MiiRO for the camera.
However after long dogged persistence, I reached a favourite. *Definitely* the Salted Caramel. Salt, caramel, chocolate and super rich and creamy coconut ice cream.
SALTED CARAMEL MiiRO HAS SURELY ONE OF THE MOST GORGEOUS FLAVOUR COMBINATIONS IN THE KNOWN UNIVERSE
Oh, but wait. The MiiRO Peanut Butter ice cream filling had a great bold, earthy, roasted nutty flavour. Such a welcome contrast.
The Chocolate Hazelnut? Yes, it is true that the browned buttery sweet flavor of Hazelnuts which goes *so* well with good chocolate is present and delightful.
I think I might just need to try all three again to make *absolutely sure* that the Salted Caramel remains my favourite. I do not wish to take any risks. I accept the burden of sampling many more MiiROs. Let us persevere together.
MiiRO Icecreams Where to Buy?
MiiROs are currently available in far too few places. Only Wholefoods and As Nature Intended stores carry them. They are sold in packs of three of a kind for £6.49.
Whilst repeating that these are simply great *rather than* great because of what they are free from I call for any store, cafe, juice bar that wants to offer customers a genuinely wonderful vegan chocolate ice cream to begin stocking these. If you want to have them available locally take action! Encourage your local potential stockists to contact MiiRO.
Ocado customer? Join me in pestering Ocado to stock them! Make a product request to Ocado to stock MiiRO
